Synopsis :

Elise, the daughter of a prison warden, who was in sixth grade living in a creaking house under the shadow of New Mexico prison. Her new paranormal talent attracts the curiosity of her naughty brother, Christian, and his rude father, Gerald. His father did not believe in her ability, while her mother told that she was just a little different.

In the early scene, Elise found herself trapped in her lower room at night. She got a signal to follow a child's voice to open a mysterious red door, which turns out to have tragic consequences.

Back in the present, Elise received a call from the new owner of her childhood home, which has undergone a strange phenomenon of its own. She was initially reluctant to look back to her traumatic past. However, she quickly relented and decided to return to the small town of New Mexico with her two assistants. Her new client had a striking resemblance to her father and even his walking style. Elise barely found a strange incident in the house until various sightings began to crawl out. Elise then returned to town to meet her brother and her two grown daughters. Christian was angry and blamed Elise for leaving her at the age of 16. Before long, the two decided to return to the haunted old house.

Original Opinion :

In my opinion, the Insidious movie chapter 4 "the last key" is good. Adam Robithel tries to create a thrilling scene in every scene. Many unexpected scenes are presented to the audiences. Early on, we are served with a very epic flashback event. In the Insidious movie "The Last Key", this explains the relationship between Insidious 1 and 3. Here is told that Elise is an old psychic who will retire. She gained a lot of experiences and got a "last key" she needed to find the truth about the evil spirit she had loose and then disturb her.

In this film, many secrets are revealed and make the audiences feel curious about the next story. Some scenes bring the ghosts suddenly and make the audiences feel surprised and frightened. In the Insidious movie "The Last Key" has little difference with chapter 3. In chapter 3, the horror scene seems imposing and less natural. Insidious chapter 4 is in my opinion still less horror when compared with insidious 1 or 2. May be due to different directors, so the concept is different too. Actually, many scenes are confusing because the placement of grooves that seem unconsistent. In this Insidious movie, I did not find any jump scare. It's just that there is one scene where Elise is being interrogated by the police for murder and there suddenly the ghost comes up with a very creepy appearance. It's one of the most shocking scenes I think. But once again, the director of this film managed to make the audience feel curious. Many scenes are finally revealed. I like watching the film with the difference dimension of space and time. The ending is very difficult to guess. Actually I feel disappointed with this ending. I hope in this film, there are more explanation who is the devil that disturbed Elise and what are the motivations Elise's father tortured and killed a woman. Is Elise's father suffering from a psychiatric disorder or there is a grudge in it. This is still not clear. But I think this movie is good.

For the rating, I give 7,5 out of 10. Because in my opinion there are still many things that are not answered clearly.

The cinematography is good. How they show the excellent acting and side by side with good shoots anyway.

This film has a horror genre. For the music and sound is good. But many scenes are not given backsounds, and make the scene to be less creepy.

For the acting from their own characters are great, Lin Shaye or Elise Rainier is best actor for me, because she can animate her role well when she is not young anymore but she tried to show professionalism in her acting. Other casts are also very supportive, especially both of Elise's assistants.

The source material, I think to answer the previous chapter, in the first and third chapters.

For the direction is trying to direct the audience to follow the path created by the director and writer. they managed to steer the audience well.

The Insidious “The Last Key” has good writing style. How Leigh Whannell or the writer tried to show different grooves.

The Edditing of this film is good. The editing process is well done, especially at the time of the scene in different dimensions. However, there are still the editing that seems still rough or suddenly changed with the next scene.

This insidious setting takes place in the St. Apple tree 5 keys New Mexico (Elise’s Home). There are the specific place : In Bedroom, In Basement, Livingroom, In the Warehouse, In the Garden,In the hospital, etc.

I get some moral values from the film, there are :

- "they" exist

- God is always with us. Even the evil demons, never give up!

- we can not blame our fate

- as bad as any problems we can do it with a strong adhesion.

The Conclusion from the Insidious movie is we never know what will happen to us, now or tomorrow. We must continue to struggle and never give up in the face of all odds. Elise here proves that, the advantages that she have does not become a barrier herself to help everyone. She points out that "if we have a strong desire, no one drops you, Elise suffers a trauma severe enough from her father but she tries to forget all that and start a new life sheet.

The film was released in the United States on January 5, 2018, by Universal Pictures.
