KARANGASEM, kanalbali.com - Mount Agung erupted again on Thursday, spewing column of ash up to 2,000 meters from the crater. The eruption on Thursday early morning has caused a panic among Balinese who perform praying at Besakih Temple, the biggest temple in Bali that located around 4 km from the volcano peak.

Mount Agung Observatory Post reported that they recorded the eruption at 1.31 a.m. “Mount Agung erupted on April 4, at 1.31 a.m. with column of ash up to 2,000 meters from the peak (around 5,142 meters from the sea level),” the observatory post reported.
The post also recorded in the seismogram that the eruption was happened with 25 mm of amplitude for about 3 minutes and 37 seconds duration. “The roaring sound can be heard from the observatory post,” the report said.
The Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) maintained the volcano’s alert status at level three. The danger zone remains within a 4-kilometer radius from the crater.

PVMBG warned all people to stay away from the danger zone. No activity is allowed at the danger zone. Climbing Mt. Agung have been prohibited since its volcanic activity increased in 2017. People living along rivers at the foot of Mt. Agung have also been warned to remain vigilant for possible cold lava flows, which can occur during rain. (kanalbali/KR12)
