Prosecutor seek 5 months imprisonment for Australian who stole bag

DENPASAR, kanalbali.com - The Badung prosecutor have demanded the Denpasar District Court to sentence an Australian man, Bilal Kalache, a 5 months imprisonment for allegedly stealing Gucci bag. The demand was far lighter than the maximum 5 years imprisonment carries by the article 362 of criminal code.

"We concluded and convinced that the defendant violate article 362 of criminal code. Therefore, the defendant should get decent punishment," said prosecutor I Made Gde Bamaxs Wira Wibowo in Denpasar Court on Monday, March 18.
Prosecutor considered that the defendant act has caused restlessness as aggravating factor. However, he also considered some mitigating factors. "The defendant have obviously admitted his act, regret, and the defendant is the family backbone," prosecutor Bamaxs said.
Prosecutor requested the panel of judges to declare the defendant Bilal Kalache guilty for stealing as regulated in article 362 of criminal code. "We demanded the judge to sentence the defendant Bilal Kalache to 5 months imprisonment," Bamaxs said.

In response the prosecutor demand, Kalache asked forgive to panel of judges. "I am very sorry for wasting your time. I respect the Indonesian law and I am very sorry," the father of five said.
Kalache was arrested at I Gusti Ngurah Rai international airport in Bali on January 10, several hours after he was allegedly stealing a Gucci bag from a Duty Free store at Bali Galeria Mall in Kuta. The luxury bag is priced at Rp 12,282,500. Kalache was arrested when he took his son to the airport for a Sydney-bound flight. (kanalbali/KR12)
