Prosecutor seek 8 years for Australian man and his girl friend

DENPASAR, kanalbali.com - Denpasar prosecutor have demanded 8 years imprisonment for an Australian man Brendon Luke Johnsson and his Indonesian girl friend Remi Purwanti over drugs possession. Prosecutor also demanded the judge to fine the couple Rp 800 million each person, or and additional 3 months imprisonment if they fail to pay it. Prosecutor said that the couple has violate article 112 aubsection 2 of law no 35/2009 about drug. "Demand the judge to sentence the defendants to 8 years imprisonment and Rp 800 million of fine or 3 months imprisonment," prosecutor Yuli Peladiyanti said in a trial at Denpasar District Court on February 6.

Prosecutor said that the judge should consider that the defendant's act against the government policy on eradicating drugs. However, prosecutor also considering that the defendants are cooperative and confessed their act. "Defendant feel remorse and promise to not repeat their act," Yuli said. Responding the prosecutor demand, the defendant directly delivered their defense statement. In a written statement, Johnsson said his remorseful. "I am guilty as charged and I take responsibility for my actions. And I am remorseful, embarrased and ashamed of them. I am sit here a broken man, a regretful and remorseful man, but also a sober man, a changed man," he said.

Remi Purwanti also deliver her defense statement, saying that she feel remorse and promise to not repeat her act. Judge will deliver their verdict in the next trial in Feb 20. Johnsson and Remi were arrested by Denpasar police's drugs squad in a raid targeting their boarding house in Kuta, August 4, last year. From the boarding house, police seized 13 pack of cocaine, weighing total 11 grams. (kanalbali/KR12)
