Khoerunnisa, dkk (2020) dalam buku Super Complete SMP/MTs 7,8,9 menjelaskan passive voice adalah suatu bentuk kalimat yang subjek kalimatnya menerima aksi, bukan melakukan aksi. Berbeda dari active voice yang berfokus pada pihak yang melakukan aksi.

Contoh:

• Active : My parents plant some flowers. (pelaku aksi)

• Passive : Some flowers are planted by my parents. (penerima aksi)

Untuk membentuk kalimat pasif atau passive voice, harus disesuaikan dengan tense kalimat. Berikut ini rumus passive voice:

Subject + to be (am/is/are) + past participle (pp)
