In today's modern era, information flows rapidly from various sources, ranging from news, social media, to public opinion. However, not all information we receive is equally truthful and accurate. This is why critical reading has become an essential skill. Critical reading is the ability to read carefully, analyze, and evaluate information critically so that we can distinguish between facts and opinions.

In daily life, we often encounter misleading information, whether due to miscommunication or intentional fabrication. A common example is the widespread circulation of hoaxes through social media. Without critical reading, people can easily be influenced by such information, leading to misunderstandings or even conflicts.
Conversely, someone with critical reading skills can identify gaps in arguments, assess the validity of sources, and consider the context of a text. For instance, when reading an article about health, a critical reader would ask: "Is this information supported by credible research? Who is the author, and what is their motive?" Such questions help us make wiser decisions.
Not only in reading news, this skill is also relevant in education and professional environments. Students with critical reading skills can better grasp complex academic materials, while professionals can evaluate reports or important documents more effectively. Critical reading, essentially, is the foundation of sound decision-making.

However, this skill does not come naturally. It requires practice and awareness to always read critically. One of the best ways to train it is by reading from various perspectives. When we get used to viewing an issue from different angles, our analytical abilities sharpen.
It's also important to remember that critical reading doesn't mean being skeptical of everything. Instead, it is an effort to deeply and objectively understand information. The goal is to gain a comprehensive understanding, not just to accept or reject information outright.
In this increasingly complex world, critical reading is a shield that protects us from information manipulation. It helps us become independent thinkers, capable of filtering information, and contributing positively to society.

In conclusion, critical reading is an urgent skill that every individual must possess. By becoming critical readers, we not only protect ourselves from misinformation but also help build a more aware and educated society.
