A Librarian's Duties Are More Than Just Arranging Books

Profession is a person's expertise obtained through education, experience and skills. Based on a person's level of knowledge, vocational and ethics. Profession concerns a person and is not only related to the job they are involved in. Profession will measure the extent of a person's professional level in carrying out their obligations in carrying out a job. A person's professional attitude can be measured through work carried out responsibly, diligently, disciplined and seriously.

Indonesia itself has 35 types of professions or jobs to meet the needs of some people in earning a living and some are done to channel their hobbies. Professions or jobs that can make money include teachers, librarians, doctors, pilots, police, farmers, fishermen and others. The professions that are channeled through talents or hobbies are Writer, Architect, Chef and many more. People who are professional at work will always be relied on and trusted in carrying out their duties.
Likewise with a librarian, the skills possessed by this profession are obtained through educational pathways related to the library department. Library Science majors study many things, not just about placing books according to book number classification. However, this major studies many skills such as in the fields of Information Technology, Management, Archives and Education. Library materials have also entered the area of digital technology, namely processing information in digital form such as archives and records.

The Department of Library Science not only produces graduates who are competent in their fields but also moral in their attitudes. As is the teaching material studied regarding librarian ethics. The skills involved in this profession are being able to process data, being able to work in a team, being able to overcome problem solving, thinking critically, being able to communicate well, and being thorough and diligent in your work.
It is still rarely known by many people, namely that the duties of a librarian are more than just arranging books. There are 8 duties of a librarian, namely; Managing and caring for collections of library materials, preparing cataloging and classification, providing reference services and assistance to users, creating public service programs, maintaining equipment and facilities, improving library collections, providing training. Establishing collaboration with other institutions and libraries. These are the 8 tasks that a librarian must understand in fulfilling their duties in the library.
