Jika sebuah drama dan film dipolakan dan dibentuk dengan alur, maka teks dalam tulisan dibentuk oleh generic structure. Kalimat tidak hanya harus mudah dipahami, tetapi juga harus mempunyai struktur umum yang jelas.

Struktur umum akan membantu membuat kalimat menjadi lebih rapi dan terstruktur. Struktur umum sangatlah penting, terutama dalam teks yang disajikan dalam konteks formal.

Pengertian generic structure merupakan suatu pola atau alur yang disisipkan dalam tahap pemetaan ide suatu teks.

Singkatnya, struktur umum ini diperlukan untuk menciptakan pola kalimat yang disajikan pada subbagian. Struktur umum disusun sedemikian rupa sehingga teks dapat mencapai tujuannya.

Setiap teks mempunyai struktur umum yang berbeda. Misalnya, struktur umum yang terdapat pada teks narasi berbeda dengan struktur umum teks laporan.

Generic narrative teks, yaitu orientation, complication, resolution, and reorientation. Sedangkan generic dalam report text, yaitu title, generic classification, dan description.

Seperti yang telah dijelaskan sebelumnya, struktur ini memiliki sejumlah subbagian yang memuat ide atau konsep. Ketika belajar bahasa Inggris, perlu memahami materi yang satu ini.

1. Orientation

Dikutip dari buku Let’s Learn English Together, Silvia Wulandari, dkk, (2021:22), bagian orientation merupakan bagian pendahuluan atau perkenalan.

Pada bagian ini, penulis memberikan sebuah pengenalan berupa informasi mengenai siapa, dimana, dan kapan peristiwa atau kejadian itu terjadi di masa lalu.

Dalam bagian ini, penulis diharapkan memberikan informasi yang kepada pembaca mengenai hal-hal yang diperlukan untuk memahami keseluruhan dari teks.

2. Event

Setelah bagian orientation atau pengenalan terkait gambaran awal suatu teks dalam bahasa inggris. Kemudian, struktur umum teks bahasa Inggris akan memuat event/peristiwa.

Peristiwa dalam teks bahasa Inggris merupakan rangkaian peristiwa yang coba ditonjolkan dan diceritakan oleh penulis kepada pembaca.

3. General Classification

Istilah selanjutnya yang terdapat dalam struktur teks berbahasa inggris yakni, general classification atau klasifikasi umum. Bagian ini memuat topik atau pembahasan umum yang terdapat dalam teks berbahasa Inggris terkait dengan peristiwa yang dibicarakan.

4. Description

Kemudian, istilah dalam struktur teks bahasa inggris berikutnya yakni description atau deskripsi. Bagian ini berisi penjelasan serta tambahan pada bagian klasifikasi umum. Melalui uraian ini, penulis berharap para pembaca akan lebih memahami apa yang ia uraikan.

5. General Statement

Selain general classification terdapat juga istilah general statement atau pendapat secara umum yang ditulis oleh penulis. Pada bagian ini penulis akan menjelaskan pendapatnya secara umum mengenai topik atau artikel yang sedang diangkat atau bahas.

6. Conclusion

Di bagian akhir teks dalam bahasa inggris, biasanya akan terdapat conclusion atau kesimpulan. Bagian ini merupakan kesimpulan dari teks yang disampaikan oleh penulis. Pada bagian ini, penulis biasanya akan menulis ringkasan dari keseluruhan teks yang ditulis.

7. Istilah Lain yang Mungkin Muncul

Selain istilah-istilah yang disebutkan di atas, struktur umum terkadang memuat istilah-istilah lain. Istilah lainnya antara lain: abstract, argument, explanation, elaboration, interpretation, incident, issue, complication, resolution juga reorientation.

Struktur umum narrative text adalah struktur utama yang membangun teks narrative menjadi teks yang baik dan bisa diterima. Secara spesifik, naratif teks biasanya terdiri dari alur, plot, tema, seting, sudut pandang, dan lain-lain.

Sedangkan secara generic, teks naratif memiliki beberapa struktur yang diperlukan untuk menyusunnya. Sebelum membahas mengenai contohnya, perlu mengetahui terlebih dahulu struktur umum yang membangun teks tersebut. Simak penjelasan berikut!

Bagian Orientation

One day on a pier at Mandeh Beach, there lived a beautiful girl named Birna. She lives with her father who is a fish trader. The pier was not too crowded, the residents who lived around it were only tens of people.

In such a lonely and quiet place Birna never feels lonely, isn’t it magical? She was always passionate about teaching a small number of children to read and write. Her world lived even in a deserted place that was near death.

One day her father would go to sell his salted fish to the other side, this was both good news and sad news. Happy that her father will come home with some books, and sad that she has to be home alone.

Day after day had passed, Birna was looking forward to her father’s return together with used books from the bookstore that he had promised. But her father never came home.

It’s been a month since her father left for business, Birna has not heard from her father. Month after month, but her father still hasn’t come home. Birna had to live her days without her father.

Then suddenly a miracle came, there was news that her father was still alive and would return soon. Her father turned out to have an accident. He was helped by a kind woman named Pristanti.

This incident also brought Birna and Pristanti together, Pristanti was surprised that in a place far from the crowds there was a lamp as bright and smart as Birna.

Bagian Resolution

Pristanti changed many things In Birna’s life, Pristanti regularly sent books to Birna. Birna also learned many things from Pristanti. Slowly they both made a small school specifically for children and parents who want to learn to read.

Bagian Reorientation

Destiny and the way of life always run as long as humans live. Destiny brought Pristanti and Birna together to give each other kindness and share knowledge and thoughts.

Human Skin

General Classification

Skin is the outer layer of the body. In human beings, it is the most important and largest organ of the system that covers our body.

Our skin has a function to protect the human body from infection, also maintain fluid balance, extreme temperatures, and synthesize vitamin D for personal needs. It also has a function to shield physical structure.

Description

Skin has three main layers, which are Epidermis or Stratum, Dermis, and Hypodermis or skin layers that have their individual tasks and need each other. The stratum layer is the outer layer of the skin.

This layer doesn’t contain blood vessels, and is made from Merkel cells, keratinocytes, with melanocytes and Langerhans cells. Beneath the stratum layer, there is Dermis or corium layer.

This layer contains hair follicles, sweat glands, fat glands, apocrine glands, body fluid vessels and blood vessels. This layer is connected to the cuticle layer with the basement membrane.

Structurally, this layer is split into 2 regions, that the region next to the cuticle referred to as the process region, and also the thick inner region that’s called the crisscrossed region.

What is more, there’s layer that situated below the derma layer. This layer is thought as hypodermic tissue.

Layer serves to connect the skin to the underlying bone and muscle and provide them with blood vessels and nerves. the mixture of those 3 main layers has a mean thickness of 1 mm.
