Mount Agung erupts again, ejects lava

KARANGASEM, kanalbali.com - Mount Agung erupted again today for the second time, following the first eruption in early morning. The second eruption was happened at 6.56 p.m. local time, ejecting lava to all direction up to 3 km.

The volcano observatory recorded the eruption at 6.56 p.m. with column of ash up to 3 km from the volcano’s peak, or around 6,142 meters above the sea level. The eruption was happened for 1 minutes and 22 seconds. “The volcanic material ejected into all direction around 2,500 to 3,000 meters from the crater,” the observatory reported.
The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) maintained the alert level at third level or siaga. The danger zone also remains within a 4-kilometer radius from the crater.
The center warned all people to stay away from the danger zone. No activity is allowed at the danger zone. People living along rivers at the foot of Mt. Agung have also been warned to remain vigilant for possible cold lava flows, which can occur during rain.

Earlier today, Mount Agung has erupted with column of ash up to 2,000 meters from the volcano’s peak. Volcanic ash had fall into some part of Bali on Sunday morning. The ash rain also hit some area outside Karangasem regency, including Denpasar, Badung, Tabanan, Klungkung, and Bangli Regency. (kanalbali/KR12)
