Sutradara Chloe Zhao menorehkan sejarah di gelaran Golden Globes 2021. Dalam ajang tersebut, dia meraih penghargaan Best Director untuk film Nomadland.

Zhao menjadi perempuan Asia pertama yang memenangkan penghargaan tersebut.
Dia juga menjadi perempuan ke-2, setelah Barbra Streisand untuk film Yentl di 1984, yang meraih Best Director di ajang tersebut.
Dikutip dari Consequence of Sound, selama 77 tahun baru ada lima perempuan yang masuk nominasi Best Director. Di antaranya Barbra Streisand, Ava DuVernay, Jane Champion, Sofia Coppola, dan Kathryn Bigelow.
Jumlah tersebut naik pada tahun ini, dengan tambahan Zhao, Emeral Fennell (Promising Young Woman), dan Regina King (One Night in Miami).
Nomadland yang digarap oleh perempuan 38 tahun tersebut juga memenangkan Best Motion Picture Drama di Golden Globes 2021.
Film ini mengisahkan perjalanan seorang perempuan bernama Fern (Frances McDormand), menuju barat Amerika dengan mengendarai van.
