GEOSTORM REVIEW

Geostorm is a science fiction and suspense movie co-written, produced, and directed by Dean Devlin released on 20th October 2017. The movie star, Gerard Butler as Jake Lawson, is a satellite designer and he is Hannah’s father which acted by Talitha Bateman where she became a narrator in the beggining and ending of the movie. The second influenced star of the movie is Jim Sturgess as Max Lawson, he is a State Department official, Jake’s younger brother and Hannah's uncle. This movie is about the coalition between 17 countries lead by United States and China create a massive satellite system called Dutch Boy designed by Jake Lawson, this satellite was aimed to neutralize the storms caused by the global warming and control the climate. In the beggining Jake Lawson was fired from the International Climate Space Station (ICSS) for behaving badly. Three years later the satellite becomes mallfunction then Max asks Jake to go to the ICSS to repair it. When his team begin to checking the problem there are many system getting failed and they can not access their account because there’s someone who sabotage it.

Geostorm is a disaster movie added some family drama and political conspiracy which is a bit disappointing to watch because there is a lot of scenes which can be explored more but go and end up awkwardly. From the begging there are a lot of disasters happened in the earth because of the climate changing or global warming in 2019 this thing doesn’t make sense how those disaster could happened in one time and the sattelite appeared suddenly, as we know in made that such massive thing is needed more more than a year. Deckon try to get the president position by destroying the world is really make no sense. Does he thinks the geostorm is going to be stopped in minutes by killing the president? The entire world will be sweeped cleanly after the geostorm happened and he will be the next president? Well i don’t get it.

The tone of this movie is suspense and there are some humor sense in the beggining of the movie when Jack was about to attend the converence and meets a receptionist, and when Jack meets his team in the space ship. There are some sad moment in this movie but i get confused when i thought that Hannah is a child who really know about machine and technology and she get it from her father. If i were her i would support my father which believed to be the only man who can fix the sattelite and do not complain it whether the space ship is safe or not and of course if she really cares about the afghanistan. In the half of the movie there are a lot of suspense scene added with a few humor sense but this a bit destruct the suspense scene, especialy for a president who did it.

This movie is well directed by Dean Devlin, he chooses the right actors to this movie and the characters could be presented well by the actors and the editing is good since there is no strange scene happen but i get a little distraction when the number of the alarm keeps going on and the scene shows some sad moment when jack and max doing the conversation about their family where it suppose to be the time for jack to fix the Dutch Boy. Well i think this is a good scene to strengthen the plot but i guess it should not be placed in this scene.

The good side from this movie is the effect of the disaster and the design of the station construction using high technology and also the sound effect that used. The flood, storm, tsunami, high temperatur and so on is well presented by some cool effects. I like the music and sound effect of this movie, especially on the scene when the Dutch Boy is realising the capsuls and sending it to the storm. The sound effect of the explosion of the capsuls is quite impressive. When the geostorm is happening the effect of the disaster is quite good and it could help the movie to be worth seen in this scene and pay the disappointment of the plot.

Geostorm is okay movie as a science fiction and suspense movie with less moral value but full of disaster events with impressive effect. This movie is match for those who love the disaster and suspense movie. Based on Rotten Tomatoes this movie has a rating of 13% based on 60 reviews and an average rating of 3.7/10. For me Geostorm is only a disaster movie, the only lesson from this movie is forcing the personal needs is never be a good thing.
