Webinar on "Jakarta: History of a Misunderstood City"

The discussion will be based on the book by Herald van der Linde, entitled “Jakarta: History of a Misunderstood City” (Marshall Cavendish, 2020). The book sells quitewell.

The book has made Jakarta (its old buildings, its history, its dynamic culture) more human, alive and lovable. It not only helps people connect to the past, but also to understand & appreciate what is now, with an encouraging future outlook.

Heuken Institute invites the author (Herald van der Linde) to share about his book: how he came up with the idea, what were the ups and downs of the process along the way, especially his research development. In short, the author will explain the title: in what way(s) have many people “misunderstood” the city of Jakarta?

There will be two designated Responders, i.e. Mona Lohanda and Scott Merrillees. Both will respond to Herald’s book, and add on their own research and publications regarding Jakarta’s history.
