Penyajian cerita dibangun dengan konflik antartokoh dan dengan penyelesaian di akhir cerita. Setiap cerita mengandung pesan moral yang bisa jadi pelajaran untuk pembaca.

Contoh 1: The Legend of Banyuwangi

Once upon a time there lived a prince named Banterang and a girl from the kingdom of Klungkung named Surati. The two met in the forest, Surati's beauty fascinated Banterang.

Surati did not know that Banterang was a prince from another kingdom who defeated her kingdom. Banterang invited Surati to live in his palace, where they fell in love and eventually married.

One day, Surati met her brother who was still alive. Her brother found out that Surati was married to the prince of the kingdom that destroyed his kingdom.

He intended to slander Surati into divorcing Banterang. Surati's brother disguised himself as a beggar and instigated Banterang by saying that Surati wanted revenge on Banterang.

Banterang then had a big fight with Surati, until finally Surati would jump into a river.

"If after I jump into the river and the water smells good, then I am not lying."

Surati went into the river and the water smelled nice. Banterang regretted believing the beggar who told a lie.

Contoh 2: The Legend of Tangkuban Perahu

In ancient times in West Java there was a woman named Dayang Sumbi who had a son named Sangkuriang. This child had a god-like father in the form of a dog.

One day when Sangkuriang was hunting, he drove the dog into the forest. He came home and told Dayang Sumbi about the incident.

Dayang Sumbi was angry and hit Sangkuriang's head until it hurt and left a mark. Sangkuriang was sad and left home for decades.

After Sangkuriang grew up, he intended to return to his hometown. But he did not find his mother. Instead, he met a beautiful girl who was actually Dayang Sumbi, his mother.

Dayang Sumbi did not age because she was given the gift of eternal beauty. So when she met Sangkuriang, she still looked young. They fell in love.

One day, Dayang Sumbi realized that the man she loved was her biological son. But Sangkuriang tried to propose to her and hoped to marry her.

The woman finally gave conditions to dam the river and build a boat and everything must be completed before sunrise. Unfortunately, Sangkuriang failed to do so and he was so angry that he kicked the boat.

The boat eventually turned into a mountain which is now named Tangkuban Perahu.
