Dikutip dari buku Bongkar Pola Soal UNBK SMA/MA IPA 2020, Eli Trisnowati (2019:115), review text merupakan jenis teks yang digunakan untuk merangkum, menganalisis, dan memberi respons terhadap suatu karya literatur, seperti film, novel, drama, dan lainnya.
Dalam bahasa Inggris, review text menggunakan dua ciri kebahasaan, yakni present tense yang dituliskan seperti jenis teks deskriptif, dan adjectives yang menggunakan kata-kata sifat.
Adapun sebuah teks akan dikatakan sebagai review text jika mengandung tiga struktur. Eli Trisnowati (2019:115) dalam bukunya menjabarkan tiga struktur review text sebagai berikut.
1. Context
Context berisi informasi-informasi dasar dari karya yang dibahas, seperti judul, penulis, jenis karya, setting, dan ulasan singkat.
2. Text Description
Bagian ini memberikan gambaran tentang detail suatu karya yang di-review. Text description dapat berupa bagian-bagian dari karya tersebut, keunikannya, serta kualitasnya.
3. Judgement
Pada bagian ini, penulis memberikan pandangannya sendiri tentang karya yang di-review. Tentunya tahap ini dilakukan setelah melakukan evaluasi yang cukup terhadap karya tersebut.

2. Contoh Review Text Film - The Last Emperor
In The Last Emperor, director Bernando Bertolucci not only gives us a fascinating history lesson, but also a compelling human drama. It is the story of Pu Yi, who came to the throne in 1908 at the age of 2.
The performances are outstanding and the movie is spectacular in every way. The 3 hours fly by, and the audience is left feeling they have gotten to know a great country and sensitive, unusual man.
Don’t go see The Last Emperor if you’re expecting a history lesson. Bertolucci’s epic about the rise and fall of Pu Yi is hard to follow and confusing at times. But he has done a remarkable job of portraying Chinese culture and captured China in stunningly beautiful images.
The scenery and the costumes are nice. But the main character is passive and dull. He simply watches his life go by. You’d expect a film which covers 60 years of history to be exciting. But the 3 hours of The Last Emperor drag on forever. At last, the film is consistently boring.
