Lewat esai ini, mahasiswa bisa meyakinkan kampus dan jurusan tujuan agar bisa diterima. Selain itu, esai ini juga bertujuan untuk mengkorelasikan latar belakang, pengalaman, prestasi, minat studi, sampai tujuan dan motivasi memiliki jurusan dan kampus tersebut.

Salah satu keterampilan yang dibutuhkan oleh mahasiswa dalam menulis personal statement adalah menulis. Mahasiswa sudah seharusnya dilatih menulis agar bisa menghasilkan tulisan yang meyakinkan pembaca.
