Contoh passive sentence dapat digunakan untuk memahami pembentukan kalimat pasif dalam bahasa Inggris. Bahasa Inggris tidak seperti bahasa Indonesia yang tinggal mengubah awalan me menjadi di untuk melakukan perubahan dari aktif ke pasif.

Dikutip dari Intisari Lengkap English Grammar, Nur Rosita (2017:117), passive voice atau passive sentence adalah bentuk gramatikal ketika subjek kalimat tidak melakukan aksi, melainkan menerima aksi, baik disebutkan maupun tidak.

Rumus passive sentence berlaku untuk semua tenses, yaitu:

Subject + to be (auxiliary verb) + verb 3 (past participle) + by object + sisa kalimat.

1. Active: My mother cleans our house every evening.

   Passive: Our house is cleaned by my mother every evening.
