The Mouse Deer and Crocodiles

One quiet morning, several crocodiles were roaming in the river near a teak tree. They are so hungry that they are busy glancing here and there looking for prey. One of them said, "Really, this morning I was very hungry". Then another crocodile replied, "Yes, that's right, so are we who are also very hungry". The sun slowly rose so that the clear river water level gradually reflected the sparkling light. Finally, the crocodiles went back into the river because they could not find their prey.

Simultaneously, the deer happily walked around the forest. Because this friendly attitude also causes the deer to have many friends. Adding interest in his heart, the mouse deer then continued his journey.

After walking around for so long, the mouse deer suddenly felt hungry. He pulled over to eat the grass that grew around the big rocks. The grass was very fresh and green, and there were still dewdrops from the mist from this morning. After several times of devouring the grass, the mouse deer, who was still hungry, said, "Grass alone doesn't make me full."

Suddenly a crocodile emerged from the surface of the river and approached the deer who looked happy. Crocodiles that have not found prey so far are no less sparkling when they meet the presence of a deer in their nest.

In his mind right now was just eating, eating, and eating to survive. The crocodile began to approach the deer, "Hey Mouse Deer! What are you doing to the river? Would you like to be our meal?” asked the hungry crocodile to the deer.

Mouse Deer with all his clever wits answered the crocodile's questions happily, "I have good news for all of you. I brought fresh meat from the king and was ordered to count the number of crocodiles in the river. You just line up and I'll count later."

Happy to hear the news that the deer brought fresh meat for him and the other crocodile friends, the crocodile then agreed to the deer's request. He called all the crocodiles in the river.

After arriving at the end of the river, the deer casually jumped to the edge and climbed to the mainland. The joy of the crocodiles increased because soon they would be given fresh meat by the king. But suddenly the deer said, "Thank you crocodiles. Thanks to you, I was able to cross this river.” After saying that, the mouse deer immediately ran towards his target tree.

The crocodile's disappointment can no longer be dammed. To the deer who had succeeded in lying to him, they could only huddle under the shadow of the fresh meat they had been craving. So before long, hunger engulfed them again in a dignified way.
