A person’s worth nowadays seems to be judged according to social status and material possessions. Old-fashioned values, such as honour, kindness and trust, no longer seem important.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Write at least 150 words.
Jawaban:
In today's society, there appears to be a prevailing trend where an individual's value is often measured by their social status and material possessions. The traditional virtues of honour, kindness, and trust seem to have taken a back seat in this modern evaluation.
I firmly disagree with the notion that these old-fashioned values have lost their significance, as I believe they continue to play a crucial role in shaping an individual's true worth.
Firstly, honour remains a timeless quality that defines one's character. Individuals who uphold principles of integrity and honesty are often respected in both personal and professional spheres.
For example, a person who maintains their promises and commitments is likely to earn trust and admiration, contributing to a positive societal perception of their worth.
In a world driven by social networks and online interactions, genuine kindness becomes a rare and valuable trait. Acts of compassion and trustworthiness contribute to the formation of strong relationships, fostering a sense of community and shared values.
While social status and material possessions can be transient and superficial markers of success, the enduring qualities of honour, kindness, and trust withstand the test of time. People are more likely to remember and appreciate individuals who exemplify these virtues, recognizing their true worth beyond societal norms.
2. You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.
Write about the following topic:
Some people claim that not enough of the waste from homes is recycled. They say that the only way to increase recycling is for governments to make it a legal requirement.
To what extent do you think laws are needed to make people recycle more of their waste?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience.
Write at least 150 words.
Jawaban:
In contemporary society, the issue of inadequate recycling of household waste is a growing concern. Some argue that the most effective approach to boost recycling rates is to enact laws that mandate such practices.
While legislation can play a pivotal role in promoting responsible waste management, it is essential to consider the broader context and potential drawbacks of relying solely on legal requirements.
Firstly, it establishes a clear framework for waste management, providing a standardized and systematic approach across communities. Legal mandates can set specific targets for recycling, creating a sense of responsibility among citizens to meet these goals.
Additionally, punitive measures, such as fines for non-compliance, can act as deterrents, encouraging individuals to adhere to recycling regulations.
Furthermore, laws can drive innovation and investment in recycling infrastructure. Governments, propelled by legal requirements, may allocate resources to develop efficient recycling facilities and implement educational programs to raise public awareness.
