Last weekend, I had the privilege of visiting the Airlangga Veterinary Hospital, a teaching hospital affiliated with Airlangga University. As someone aspiring to become a veterinarian, the experience was both inspiring and deeply educational. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the hospital’s modern facilities, well-organized layout, and the welcoming atmosphere. It was clear that this was a place where passion for animals met advanced veterinary science.

The hospital is divided into several specialized units, including a Small Animal Clinic, a Large Animal Unit, a Surgery and Imaging department, and an Exotic Pet Care section. Each unit caters to specific types of animals, from cats and dogs to farm animals and even reptiles or birds. During the tour, I had the chance to observe the veterinarians and students working seamlessly together, treating animals with a combination of expertise and compassion.
One of the most memorable moments of the visit was observing a consultation in the Small Animal Clinic. A golden retriever named Max had come in for a routine check-up. The veterinarian carefully examined him, explaining every step of the process to Max’s owner while engaging the students, teaching them valuable techniques. Seeing their teamwork and commitment to both the animal and its owner was truly inspiring. I also witnessed an ultrasound on a pregnant cat in the imaging department. Watching the tiny kittens move on the screen was a powerful reminder of the beauty of life and the importance of veterinary care.

What stood out most to me was how the staff went beyond clinical work to share their experiences. They spoke about the challenges and triumphs of their profession, emphasizing the importance of educating pet owners to ensure long-term animal health. Their stories and advice left me feeling more motivated than ever to pursue my dream of becoming a veterinarian.
This visit was more than just a glimpse into a hospital—it was a glimpse into my future. It reinforced my desire to work in a field where science, compassion, and education come together to improve lives. Airlangga Veterinary Hospital is a shining example of dedication to animal care, and it’s a must-visit for anyone passionate about this field. For me, it was not just a day of learning, but a day that solidified my vision of becoming a vet and making a difference.
