Dikutip dari buku Berkah di Hari Libur karya Hadziq Jauhary (2020: 11), ketika liburan berakhir dan waktunya masuk sekolah, siswa akan diberikan tugas untuk menceritakan pengalaman liburannya, seperti membuat contoh cerita pengalaman liburan Hari Raya Idul Fitri dalam bahasa Inggris.

1. Going back to the village of Grandma

This year's Eid holiday, my family and I went back to my grandmother's village in Central Java. The journey took about 12 hours because of the terrible traffic! But all the fatigue was worth it when we arrived at Grandma's house.

The atmosphere was cool, with many trees, and traditional Eid dishes like ketupat, chicken opor, and fried liver sambal were already served.

The most exciting part was when we rode around the village together on motorcycles to visit relatives. I also played firecrackers with my cousins, it felt like going back to childhood!

2. First Eid in a Foreign Land

This is the first time I can't go home for Eid because of work. It feels really sad because I can't gather with my family in the hometown. But my friends and I, who also didn't go back to our hometowns, ended up celebrating Eid together at the boarding house.

We cooked together—there was rendang, lontong, and sambal goreng kentang. Although far from our parents, the atmosphere remains warm because we support each other. We also video call our families while wearing traditional shirts to keep the Eid atmosphere alive.

3. Sharing at an Orphanage

This year, my family celebrated Eid al-Fitr by sharing with an orphanage. We brought food and new clothes for the children there. After the Eid prayer, we went straight to the orphanage and were greeted with warm smiles.

I had the chance to play and chat with some of the children. It turns out they have cool aspirations, some want to become doctors, teachers, even pilots! This year's Eid feels more meaningful because we can share happiness with them.

4. Eid al-Fitr Beach Trip

After visiting relatives, my family decided to go on a two-day beach vacation. We went to Parangtritis Beach, Yogyakarta. So much fun! We rode a horse-drawn carriage, flew kites, and took photos with a beautiful sunset backdrop.

That evening, we had seafood while chatting casually. This Eid holiday really became a healing moment after being busy with work and school.

5. Going Back to the Village to Grandma's House

This Eid al-Fitr holiday, my family and I went back to our hometown to my grandmother's house in the village. I am very happy because I can meet my cousins. After the Eid prayer at the mosque, we had a meal together.

There was ketupat, chicken opor, and rendang. It tastes really delicious! We also visited the neighbors' houses and shook hands. I received a lot of THR money from my relatives. This vacation was very enjoyable.

6. Not Going Home But Still Fun

This year my family is not going back to our hometown because my father has to work. Even though I'm sad I can't meet my grandmother, I remain grateful. We performed the Eid prayer at the mosque near our house, then had a meal together at home.

Mom cooked the traditional Eid dishes as usual. After that, we video called our family in the village. I also still receive holiday bonuses from my uncle and aunt. Even though I just stayed at home, my holiday was still fun and warm.

7. Eid homecoming

During the Eid holiday, my family went to two different cities. First, my family went to Wonosobo where my father's house is located. There, my family stayed for four days until Eid and prayed together with other relatives.relatives.

On the day after Eid, my family went to my mother's hometown in Jogja. My grandparents' house is near the beach, so we often spent time there while enjoying the beautiful scenery. After three days in Jogja, we returned to Jakarta.

8. Silaturahmi and Sharing Cookies

During Eid, I accompanied my mother and father as we visited the houses of neighbors and relatives. We brought jars filled with cookies made by my mother. I also helped arrange the cookies into decorative boxes.

Many were happy to receive the cakes from us. I learned the importance of sharing and maintaining relationships. This vacation made me closer to my family and the people around me.

9. The atmosphere of the Eid prayer in the field

The first day of Eid, I woke up very early. I wore a new white koko shirt and my favorite black peci. After taking a shower and having a light breakfast, I joined my father and brother for the Eid prayer in the field near our house.

The atmosphere was lively, everyone was wearing neat clothes and their faces looked happy. After the prayer, I joined in shaking hands with the people around. I feel happy to be able to celebrate Eid with many people.

10. Apologize and Get THR

After the Ied prayer, we gathered in the living room. My siblings and I exchanged forgiveness with our father and mother. The atmosphere became emotional, especially when our mother hugged us while crying tears of joy.

After that, we visited our grandparents' house. There, I met many cousins. We apologized to each other, then ate chicken curry and rice cakes together. After that, I received Eid al-Fitr money from my uncle and aunt. The joy is beyond words!

11. Helping Mom Prepare for Eid

The day before Eid, I helped my mother clean the house and arrange the cookie jars. We also prepared food for tomorrow, such as chicken opor, rendang, and fried potato sambal. I helped cut the rice cakes and arrange the plates on the dining table.

When the night of Takbir arrived, the sound of Takbir echoed from the mosque. It feels very warm in the heart. I'm proud to be able to help my mother and be part of preparing for this big day.

12. Takbiran Parade with Friends

The night before Eid, my friends and I from the village participated in the takbir procession. We carried torches, small drums, and recited the takbir together while walking around the village. The residents by the roadside smiled at us.

Some even joined in. After it was over, we gathered at the mosque for a small meal together. This is a tradition that I always look forward to every year because it feels very festive and enjoyable.

13. Gathering with the Extended Family In The Hometown

Every year, my family always gathers in our hometown to celebrate Eid together. The homecoming journey filled with stories and laughter becomes an unforgettable experience.

When we arrived at Grandma's house, we were greeted with traditional Eid dishes, such as ketupat, chicken opor, and cookies made with love by Mom and Grandma.

The atmosphere of the house, filled with the cheerful voices of children, the warm conversations of adults, and laughter, made us feel very close to each other.

After the Idul Fitri prayer, we forgive each other and share stories. Each family member shares stories about their lives over the past year.

Some have just graduated from school, some have just had children, and of course, all these stories strengthen the bonds between family members.

Moments like this make me feel grateful to be gathered with the people I love. Then in the evening, we continued our tradition of playing together, such as playing ball, flying kites, or simply sitting together on the terrace enjoying the cool evening air.

Playing with my siblings is certainly very meaningful to me, because not every day can I experience togetherness like this. The warmth of this big family becomes a beautiful memory that I always miss every time Eid arrives.

14. Visiting old friends and maintaining friendships

Lebaran holidays are also a great time to visit old friends. Every year, my family and I always make time to visit friends we haven't seen in a long time.

Of course, we greet each other with Eid greetings and share stories about our life experiences. Not only meeting with peers, but also with their parents who always welcome us warmly.

This gathering is very meaningful, as we can strengthen the bond that has long been established. After shaking hands, we started chatting about our childhood memories, various experiences over the past year, and of course, forgiving each other.

15. Exchanging Lebaran Cookies with Neighbors

This year, my mother made a lot of cookies, such as nastar, kastengel, and snow princess cookies. I was asked by my mother to deliver jars of cookies to the neighbors near our house.

It turns out they also gave us cookies in return! There are chocolate cakes, chips, and dry bread. I am happy to be able to help my mother and at the same time strengthen the relationship with the neighbors. We also wished each other a happy Eid and took photos together.

16. The Tradition of Hand Kissing and Cheek Kissing

In my family, there is a unique tradition during Eid. After the Ied prayer, we all gather, and the children must kiss the hands of the adults while saying "forgive me for any wrongs, both physical and spiritual."

After that, the adults will give "salam tempel" or THR! I love this moment because besides getting money, the atmosphere is also warm and full of laughter. We usually laugh together because there's a little cousin who mispronounces names or gets shy during handshakes.
